Mission

Advanced Systems & Technologies, Inc. (“AS&T”)

OUR MOTO: Combining leading-edge knowledge of photonics technologies and business strategy, to develop efficient and effective solutions that keep businesses one-step ahead.

AS&T was established in August 2008 by Dr. Vladimir Markov, a world-recon expert in the fields of laser physics, electro-optics, photonics, and data processing.

The company’s mission is to develop and commercialize advanced sensor technologies and laser-based products, including remote sensing, detection and measurement systems and software to support their operation.

As photonics technologies continue their rapid expansion, new market opportunities emerge for a wide variety of commercial products. Since its formation in 2008, AS&T has been growing steadily, enhancing its business activity and moving ahead with new applications of its core technologies. The AS&T team of researches and engineers came from lead academic institutes and industries, proving a broad spectrum of core expertise that enables AS&T to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions in response to customer needs and requirements.

AS&T has established a track record of successful system developments which address a diverse range of applications, and is currently working on joint development programs with Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and several branches of the US Department of Defense, including Air Force, NAVY, Army and DARPA.

Key personnel

Vladimir Markov is the founder and President of AS&T and leads all business operations. He directly manages technology development programs in the following areas: lasers with controlled parameters and beam control, space situation awareness, optical sensors and data processing. These programs have great potential for future commercial products and AS&T already provides commercial services using some of these technologies. Dr. Markov is an experienced photonics industry leader with a 40 year track record of successfully taking innovative ideas from R&D to the market place and public domain. Through his institute career he held increasingly more responsible positions from group leader to division chief, completing his academic career as Director of the Institute of Applied Optics, National Academy of Sciences (Kiev, Ukraine). He then moved to the industry where he has used his broad expertise in lasers, non-linear and coherent optics and photonics to lead development and engineering of novel laser-based systems. Dr. Markov earned his MS degree in radio-physics from Kiev State University (Ukraine) in 1971 and his Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics in 1975 from the Institute of Physics, National Academy of Science (Kiev, Ukraine).

Anatoliy Khizhnyak is the Chief Technology Officer for AS&T. He received his Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics in 1975 from the Institute of Physics, National Academy of Science (Kiev, Ukraine). Dedicating his life to R&D, Dr. Khizhnyak pioneered and directed development in such areas of photonics as tunable and phase conjugate lasers, beam control, correction of the wavefront, and coherent multi-beam interaction. As a true technology innovator Dr. Khizhnyak was actively involved in developing fundamental principles of real-time holography with four waves mixing, and was first to propose and demonstrate lasers with phase conjugated mirrors. Design and development of lasers, and electro-optics systems, and their use, to achieve a breakthrough in such practical areas as directed energy, technological lasers, and long-range vibrometry is just a very short list of his achievements. As a Senior Scientist at MetroLaser (1999-2011), Dr. Khizhnyak was responsible for design and integration of the laser systems for active tracking of remote objects and beam control technologies. The results of these studies are widely published in SPIE, AMOS and AIAA. In his key position as CTO at AS&T Dr. Khizhnyak is responsible for the company’s technical vision and strategy for technology platforms in the directions that are strategic for company, including laser beam control, wavefront sensing, space situation awareness and prospective conformal laser systems. He is also responsible for establishing technical standards and supervises development of technologies critical for company growth, contingency planning and keeping projects on track.

Dr. Khizhnyak has more than 150 papers published in refereed magazines, 4 monographs and 2 tutorials that discuss laser physics, including phase-conjugate lasers, adaptive optics, beam control, nonlinear spatio-temporal dynamics and image processing.
